In Edinburgh has opened Europe’s first blockchain-laboratory Blockpass Identity Lab, which will study the possibilities of applying blockchain technology to protect personal data online.
26 September in the Scottish capital opened blockchain research-lab on the University of Edinburgh name of Napier, in cooperation with the Hong Kong blockchain firm Blockpass IDN, which over three years will Fund research for a total amount of £ 600,000, and it will provide support for the blockchain virtual environment, researchers and 5 students of PhD programs.

The Minister for the digital economy Kate Forbes noted the importance and relevance of the mission of the innovative blockchain-lab:
“It deystvitelnno interesting work to study how blockchain technology can protect your data from online scammers and hackers”
In honor of the launch of the laboratory is planned to hold the conference on advanced cryptography, the blockchain, and digital identification, and a hackathon where participants will build prototypes of future applications of the technology.
Plans for the opening of the laboratory was first announced in April of this year when Hans Lombardo, Director of marketing Blockpass, justifying the relevance of research, referred to associated with leakage of personal data scandals. According to various estimates, about 17% of the population were victims of crimes related to identity theft, in one way or another. Last year, for example, losses associated with credit card fraud exceeded $ 1 billion.
